Mobility for us today has become a COMMODITY, but at current state of affairs our system is not able to receive the new challenges thrown by the economic crisis and by new technologies’s development.
Societies are increasingly dependent from their transport systems: a few activities such as “move and move off ” have so deeply and pervasively affect on the daily lives of people and public operators. Mobility is inherent to society’s evolution and is a fundamental component, not only for trade in goods and services, but also and above all, for the exchange of ideas that are a key driver of development.
For this reason, today it’s required a New Mobility that follows a strategy to rethink or adapt transportation systems, space and connectivity, that are designed for XX century and have to be functional to the productive and social structures of XXI century.
The new strategy can not be imposed from the top, but must be defined by mutual agreement between all stakeholders in order to develop a real policy of supply (new infrastructures to respond to the challenges of mobility).
“Streamlining” and “targeted investments” are therefore the keywords in a context of economic crisis and resource depletion. The economic crisis is leading to a change in mobility habits of Italians (bicycles, sharing system and Local Public Transit) that have to match to a change of the supply.
